Group of mountain ropes there is making its way into the new year. The Colorado bluegrass quintet, consisting of Dave Johnston, Allie Kral, Ben Kaufmann, Adam Aijala and Nick Piccininni, announced their upcoming album on Friday, December 3. The disc, titled Go outside, is scheduled for February 25 and is the first work done with new band member Nick Piccininni.
âNick is an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist. He’s also a great singer with a magnetic stage presence, âsaid guitarist and YMSB co-founder Adam Aijala. âAnd he’s in such a creative space right now, something that’s brought a whole new vibe and dynamic to the band. But, at the same time, it’s such a natural fit, where it hits that sweet spot of the Yonder Mountain sound we’re known for.
This evolving but still excellent sound of Yonder Mountain was born out of a series of collaborations between YMSB artists on the road. âThis album has been a learning experience for the band, from taking on Nick to managing the shutdown as a nationwide touring group to working on new tracks,â Kaufmann said. “There is a blessing in this life to be able to play music for a living, and Go outside is proof of that, which is why it was such a joy to finally play these songs live.
âWe want the listener to come out of your own head, out of the box or container that you have created around yourself, look outside and see what else is there,â continued Kaufmann.
âFor me, it was the accessibility and ease of bluegrass,â Aijala added. “I really liked that the music could reach this very high energy, and it was just acoustic instruments, your voice and a microphone – that’s a beautiful thing.”
In conjunction with the announcement of their album, YMSB released the first single from the album. Listen to âInto The Fireâ below.
