Thomas Rhett to honor musical hero Eric Church at 2021 CMA Awards performance – Music Mayhem Magazine

Just 48 hours before “The Greatest Night of Country Music” and Thomas rhett shares his enthusiasm for its 55th edition CMA Award performance.

The country and Georgia superstar has said he will perform “Country Again” at the 2021 CMA Awards, and he is “really excited about this. Ahead of his performance, Rhett said he would perform a stripped-down version of the song, similar to what he and his band did on the Center Point Road Tour this summer.

“So I sing a song called ‘Country Again’, which was my last single on the radio,” Rhett explained. “And this whole year on tour, it was really the first time we played for our people, and we started stripping it off on tour where me and my guitarist were playing the first verse and the chorus, just us and a guitar and the group would come big at the start of the chorus.

Rhett added, “So we’re going to try to replicate what we did live this summer on the CMA stage, which will be super fun.”

In an interview with CMA, Rhett said, “I can’t wait to point my finger at Eric Church when I drop his line,” referring to the lyrics to “Country Again” where the country hitmaker sings “But last night, we cracked some cold beers / And pushed Eric Church to ten / Thought, ‘Dude, it feels good to be country again.’ ”

While Church has already given Rhett the song’s seal of approval via a text message, Rhett is hoping to get a “thumbs up” from his musical hero, Church, during his performance at the coveted awards show.

In late April 2021, Rhett shared the text conversation he shared with Church, where Church gave his approval to Rhett’s single “Country Again”.

“There’s obviously a line, about me and my buddies that pushed Eric Church to 10, and he texted me and said, ‘Hey man, I just wanted to say’ Country Again ‘is awesome. I hope you and your family are doing well. ‘ Rhett had previously shared. (Going through The Daily Country) “And I said ‘Thank you very much, that means a ton. I hope you don’t mind that I have abandoned you. And he said’ I’m honored ‘.

Rhett continued, “And it came full circle for me because he’s one of the main reasons besides Merle Haggard that I wanted to write songs in the first place. I remember I was 16 and I was just like “is there anyone better than Eric Church” and I was the guy whose favorite songs were the B sides or the cuts. the album, therefore, he’s always been someone I’ve admired as a songwriter. So getting him to sign a song was very special for me. “

Rhett previously shared that Church’s music strongly influenced much of his latest project, Country Again: Side A.

“When Chief came out, I remember being blown away by how he could tell a story and the energy he could have on a record and how he could mix rock & roll and country music so well, ”said Rhett previously. Rolling stone Church’s third studio album in 2011, Chief. “I love that he does it right and there is no shame in that.”

Additionally, Rhett recently released his latest single “Slow Down Summer”.

Co-written by Rhett alongside his father Rhett Akins and Sean Douglas, Jesse Frasure and Ashley Gorley, the track finds the hitmaker singing about a summer sweetheart that he hopes won’t wane with the season.

“Falling fast in a one-lane town / Tangled with your lips on mine / Never seen a green brighter than those eyes / And I put my jacket on your shoulder / Wishing the weather didn’t get cold,” sings Rhett in the song Refrain. “Let you go / Stick together / Close your eyes and say / Slow down the summer.” “

In addition to sharing a brand new single, he told fans he is preparing to release two new albums in 2022, including Country Again: Side B as well as a just announced project called, Where we started.

“A lot of people have asked me if ‘Slow Down Summer’ would be the first B-side song,” Rhett said, before sharing, “So I’ll give you the scoop on this. So last year and this year on the road my team and I wrote so many songs, what we decided to do is release two albums next year which is going to be awesome.

“Slow Down Summer” will be the first single from his next album, Where we started, slated for release in early 2022. And Country Again: Side B will be released later next year in fall 2022.

“I’m so pumped. I can’t wait for you to hear these new songs and can’t wait to play them for you live on the road next year. But until then you’re all excited. Tell your friends, tell your parents, tell your dogs, tell anyone.

Earlier this year, Rhett celebrated his 18th No.1 hit with “Country Again”, the title track from his latest project, Country again: side A.
