The Kings of Leon mourn the loss of Betty Ann Murphy, who was the mother of three-quarters of the group – Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill.
The devastated musicians had already canceled concerts in California on Thursday and Friday because their mother had “taken a bad turn” but on Friday they announced she was dead.
Nathan, the older brother (42), shared the sad news on his Instagram page. He also posted a photo of himself as a child and his mother.
Another photo showed him with a tattoo that included his name.
The drummer wrote next to the photos: “My heart is broken. My mother-in-law and my biggest fan went from this life to the next.
“I will cherish the memories I made with her and her legacy will live on through me, my brothers and our beautiful families.
“I’m sure grief will hit me the hardest when I least expect it, but I have an incredible support system around me.”
Nathan concluded his post: “Thank you for all your kind words and prayers. Hold your mothers tight tonight. I love you forever mom. Keep calm. Your Nathan.
Jared, 34, also shared a touching message on this sad day for the family.
He posted a series of photos of him with his mom on Instagram with the caption: “My mom has always been so proud of us. She let everyone know. I will always post pictures of us.
“She would send me pictures of us together and tell me I could post them if I ‘wanted’. To celebrate Mother’s Day or her birthday. It was ridiculous to me. It wasn’t cool. was embarrassed.
“Well, I’m not embarrassed anymore. “
Jared continued, “You were the strongest, sweetest, most beautiful woman in the world to me. You were a better mom and grandma than any of us deserved.
“I am so proud that you are my mother. Always has been and always will be. I love you so much.
“I will miss you every day until I’m with you again.”
It was only 24 hours earlier that the group had shared that their mother had “faced a medical crisis in the past few weeks.”
They then performed a show at the Forum but described the experience afterward as “a difficult spectacle to live”.
They returned home immediately after the concert so they could stay with their mother “until it was time to say goodbye.”
King of Leon includes Matthew Followill, their cousin, who plays keyboards and guitar.
