Multi-platinum rock band Rage Against The Machine has earned their fourth consecutive nomination to the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

They have been eligible since 2017 and eligible band members include Tim Commerford, Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello and Brad Wilk. They are one of 17 musical acts in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Electric Ballot for the Class of 2022.

Rage Against the Machine are known for being social justice advocates who challenged sonic boundaries, and rightly so. It’s a group that lives up to its name. It is a political and musical force with which we could not count.

They formed in 1991 and targeted oppressive systems of power (cultural, political, economic and others). They did everything to start a revolution, and this was the case with their music.

Their music is a fusion of genres such as hip-hop, punk, metal, funk and rock. They were part of a musical tradition that was indebted to MC5, The Clash and Public Enemy.

While many ’90s rock bands supported social justice issues in their music and lyrics, the rebellious politics of Rage Against the Machine stood head and shoulders above. They weren’t afraid to be raw and vulnerable with their music and storytelling skills.

They were able to give a voice to the powerless, where they denounced local and global inequalities and they rallied against censorship, corporate cronyism and government excesses. Most importantly, their music and lyrics are as relevant and current as ever.
