Maroon 5 rocks the NYE show in Las Vegas

It was minutes away from 2022 at Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan, but Adam levine talked about a long time ago.

“We have a clock offstage, but it’s from 1986,” Levine joked. “It doesn’t display seconds, just minutes. I think it’s a Casio.

The Maroon 5 frontman and former judge and coach of “The Voice” said the night countdown would be displayed on the screen behind him. Good news. He said the timing was a bit off, as the band left the stage at 11:55 am, but added, “If we’re going to do it, we’re going to do it right.”

The group counted in the year, then jumped into “Sugar”, in the middle of a full “Happy New Year 2022” video. Solid, as always, the group celebrates in June the 20th anniversary of their first album “Songs About Jane”.

The packed house, who reminded them that they had to wear masks (but not everyone obeyed that policy), started to empty just as this song ended to witness the fireworks show. ‘Strip fireworks.

Maroon 5 has traditionally rocked New Years Eve at Michelob Ultra Arena, formerly Mandalay Bay Events Center. The veteran rock band has been hooked on the Cosmopolitan just as Levine has partnered with his Calirosa Tequila brand. Being a rocker established in 2022 means developing a large side activity (alcohol brands, hot sauces, clothing, music clubs, etc.).

Throughout the property, the celebration of the calendar turnaround felt like a pre-pandemic experience. The hotel was booked at full capacity and also hosted an evening of fireworks viewing from its rooftop ice rink, a VIP champagne toast at the aptly named Chandelier Bar, a nightly performance by the DJ Sinner at Marquee Nightclub and a pre-show VIP evening at the Brera Ballroom adjacent to the Chelsea.

In this scene in several places, we spotted the former “Zumanity” co-star Brandon pereyda, spinning on an aerial platform chained and suspended. We had a few groovers in mirror suits, a few go-go dancers we recognized in Vegas productions, and a roaring DJ of house music mixed with 1980s rock.

A party, in no time. This would be the last NYE Cosmopolitan festival under the Blackstone Group, which is currently owned by the complex. The hotel was run by the CEO Bill mcbeath since December 2014. MGM Resorts International will resume operations this year, likely by the second quarter.

As the McBeath era in the hotel comes to an end, Cosmopolitan is set up with a headliner roster including Bill burr (March 18-19 and July 15-16), Angela Aguilar (March 26), Letterkenny Live! (April 2), Brockhampton (April 8), Deftones (April 22), Chaim (April 24), Olivia rodrigo (May 20), Jack White (May 20), Bunbury (June 4) and AJR (June 24). Even though competition for headlining reservations has become intense, the underrated Chelsea with a capacity of 2,500 remains a draw.

Speaking of reservations ….

In the early hours, we welcomed the New Year for the second time in three years at the NoMad Library at Park MGM. It’s the nightlife slum filled with books where Brian newman and his group returned to residence. The ride from Cosmopolitan to Park MGM was windy, cold, and lined with revelers. But it was worth making a getaway as Newman and his burlesque-star wife, Angie Pontani, brought their 6 year old daughter, Sistilia, until singing “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver. As Newman said, “I’m not crying! You cry !

Newman has the brass section of Santa Fe and the horns of the big city scheduled for Saturday’s show. We expect more from Newman, and also more from him in Lady Gaga’s “Jazz + Piano” show at Dolby Live, this year. Gaga is close to the Newmans and is also Sistilia’s godmother. Everything is family-friendly at the Library.

Great moments in social media

Two great artists and individuals from Vegas, Janien valentine and Eric Jordan Young, go back. Until the end of the 80s. To close the year, Valentine posted side-by-side photos of the two in the same pose, touching each other’s hands in a high position, from 88 and again this week. The two met in 1987, when they were students at Williams High School in East Amherst, NY, just outside of Buffalo. They starred together in the musical “Finian’s Rainbow” and have been close friends ever since. The first blow is their days of preparation. The second is from Young’s birthday party Thursday night at other artists’ homes Brent Barrett and Bernie Blanks.

Cool Hang Alert

The Spazmatique, a fun band who crushes him musically, perform at 10:30 p.m. on Saturdays at the South Point Showroom (tickets are between $ 9 and $ 19, minus fees, a paltry sum). Come for the new-wave atmosphere of the 80s, stay for the musicality. The set featured as “The Nerds Who Rock Sin City”. Dress accordingly.
