american icon and country music Legend Charlie Daniels will be forever remembered for his generous heart and classic Deep South hits that left a lasting mark on the nation he loved.
FOX Business paid tribute to the musician in the latest episode of “The Pursuit!” where host John Rich recalled conducting Daniels’ last interview three weeks before his death. The “Uneasy Rider” singer died in July 2020 of a hemorrhagic stroke at the age of 83.
Rich sat down with Charlie Daniels Jr. to recall his father’s life in the spotlight. Her son initially expressed pride in continuing the Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project, which provides financial, rehabilitation and trauma assistance to returning war veterans.
“I know he would be incredibly honored to see how many people have come forward to honor him and carry on his legacy,” he said.
Daniels, a member of the Musicians Hall of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry, has always put God, country and family first. But contemporary Christian artist Michael W. Smith first remembered Daniels as a “great friend.”
“The conversation has always been about you,” he said. “He’s humble and that’s what I loved about him… Ask his group, ask the people who worked with him. He was just a very, very kind man. Need more people in the world like Charlie. “
Smith encouraged audiences to embrace Daniels’ love for philanthropy and caring for others, marking his ability to “do a lot of things for a lot of people” with his platform as an artist.
Doug Gray, lead singer of the Marshall Tucker Band and longtime friend of Daniels, also stressed the importance of continuing his friend’s traditions such as the Volunteer Jam concert.

“Its importance is overwhelming to everyone around the world,” he said. “His beliefs affected everyone around the world.”
Daniels’ words described in his lyrics ensured that he was a trusted person, but Gray forever remembers the loss of the best friend he once had.
“A guy that I could turn to at any time musically or not musically,” he said. “He was bigger than family… Charlie means something to everyone.
At the 2021 Volunteer Jam, country voice Travis Tritt called the event “bittersweet” without Daniels while paying tribute to his “incredible career” as an artist and as an American.

“He loved this country, he loved the people who lived there,” he said. “He loved what he did for a living … and never took it for granted.”
During Rich’s June 2020 interview with Daniels, the star herself spoke about how the pursuit of happiness and the ability to be free is the makeup of her life.
“Freedom and the pursuit of happiness go hand in hand,” he said. “The freedom to worship whoever you want. The freedom to go where you want, to do whatever you want, to say whatever you want, right, wrong, indifferent, whatever, people don’t to listen to you but you have the right to say it. It is the pursuit of happiness. “
“God, family, country, work – these are my four principles.”
