One of our favorite Grammys performances (and we still get to see it again) was when BTS took the stage to sing their second English single, “Butter.”
The entire boy band took to the stage — Jungkook, V, Park Ji-min, Suga, Jin, RM, and J-Hope — along with Jungkook recently recovered from COVID. The group paid tribute to the James Bond film Impossible mission in their choreography and staging for the show.
At the start of their performance, Jungkook was lowered onto the stage while other band members were somehow stationed at Mission Control. V was then seen chatting with Olivia Rodrigo before taking the stage to dodge the laser beams with the band.
BTS’ “Butter” was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, but ultimately lost to Doja Cat and SZA’s “Kiss Me More.”
After the announcement, ARMY (BTS’s loyal fan base) was bitter, to say the least. The viral hashtag #scammys was circulating on Twitter by BTS fans expressing their disappointment with The Recording Academy.
“Disappointed, but not surprised. Scammers don’t deserve BTS #scammys #bts #grammys,” a fan wrote on Twitter.
Despite the night’s upheaval, including BTS, several artists argued that a Grammy nomination still carries a lot of weight. “We love everyone who won tonight!! I don’t want to see anyone talk trash at ALL!! Nothing but love!! Talented musicians won tonight!! We were lucky to ‘to be nominated!! And lucky to perform!!’ Finneas tweeted.
Well said, Finneas.
