DEADWOOD, SD – The 31st Deadwood Jam Musical Festival wrapped up on Saturday with a local band and bands from across the country.
The Deadwood Jam, held in Outlaw Square in Deadwood, is one of the oldest festivals in the state and each year board members take about six months to select the respective bands.
After more than three decades of new bands arriving, the members say the key to keeping the event fun and keeping people coming has turned into incorporating all music and age lovers into the Deadwood Jam Board. .
âYou know, the music changes, you know, being obviously older, so I mean I’m kind of the classic rock guy,â said Bill Pearson, vice president of Deadwood Jam. âWe’ve infused board members this year with younger members, so they’re more interested in Bluegrass, jam bands, and Americana, so you know you change over time and that everyone stays motivated because it’s always something new and different. “
Rapid City’s Tiffany Johnson Band kicked off tonight and was followed by bands like Neon Horizon and War.
Johnson said that by growing up in the area and playing Outlaw Square on multiple occasions, Saturday’s opening made a little more sense.
âI grew up watching, like coming to these shows, seeing people playing, so playing here myself,â Tiffany Johnson said. âThis year was super cool and we just played. This show is awesome to start the day of live music.â
Deadwood Jam is held each year as one of the last big events to close the year as winter approaches.
